What is Photos Repair for?

Start with a digital photo or a scan of a paper print. Choose the appropriate treatment, then compare the new image with your original.

Restore an old photo

Reduce scratches and fading in a scanned print.

Colorize a black and white photo

Create a color interpretation without claiming to recover historical colors.

Improve a blurry photo

Create a clearer version and check its details against the original.

How is a photo processed?

Select your photos, Restoration or Clarity mode, optional colorization and 2K or 4K output.
After sign-in and credit purchase, the service prepares the image and sends it to Google Gemini, using the Nano Banana 2 model, to generate an edited version.
Compare the original with the result, then download the version you want. Each new treatment requires credits.

Examples with sources you can check

Our guides document three tests on public-domain Library of Congress photographs. Each case includes the source, test date, settings, dimensions and observed limitations. These examples show specific results; they do not predict the outcome of every photo.

What AI restoration cannot guarantee

AI can alter facial features, invent details or choose colors that differ from the original scene. A 4K output contains more pixels without guaranteeing more faithful detail. Keep your original and identify edited copies as such, especially in family archives.

Your images and your account

Google Gemini performs the AI processing. Your originals and results are kept in your account’s gallery, where you can delete them. Audience measurement requires your consent to analytics cookies.
